22% onboarding optimisation with funnel analysis and cookieless tracking

Jonah reports on the major role that data privacy-compliant app analytics plays in the development of his allergy app.

With his InTolerApp, Jonah has built a tool for people who have food intolerances or allergies. With this app, you can use a scanner in the supermarket or in cooking books to quickly and easily check whether a dish is tolerated or not. The app not only supports those affected, but also friends and relatives who shop and cook for these people.

Support for people with food intolerances and allergies

I wanted to program an app for myself to make my everyday life easier and to find compatible products for my diet. When I spoke to other people affected by various intolerances and allergies, they were so enthusiastic that they wanted me to publish the app.

TelemetryDeck is the privacy-friendly alternative to Google Analytics

The InTolerApp has been installed around 40,000 times since its release a year ago. This means that a considerable amount of sensitive health information has been processed in this time. Jonah handles this information very responsibly, but also wants to improve the app in a data-driven way. He therefore specifically searched for a suitable analytics product. In the query "Alternative to Google Analytics GDPR-compliant", Google spit out TelemetryDeck.

App analytics for Flutter on iOS and (finally also) Android apps

He was immediately impressed by our analytics solution, which does not process any personal data. So much so that Jonah was already analyzing his Flutter app for Android with TelemetryDeck before we even supported Flutter on Android. Back then, he used manually set HTTP requests. Fortunately, this is now more convenient with the new Flutter SDK.

The choice of analytics solution is the first step in optimizing your app

Integrating the TelemetryDeck SDK into the Flutter app was very easy and logical, Jonah reports. After doing the first analyzes, the most pressing optimization was the onboarding flow. Thanks to the funnel charts, he could see when users were dropping off. He therefore changed the order and moved important information further forward. This reduced the bounce rate by 22 %.

The absence of cookie banners and the annoying question of consent for tracking also disrupt the onboarding process. Using an analytics solution where none of this is necessary is an equally important optimization step on the way to an app that users love.

We are very happy that with TelemetryDeck we can support Jonah and his mission to make the lives of people with intolerances and allergies easier.
