This chart shows the top minor versions of the iOS operating system for each week in the last year. Values are percentages.

For the purposes of this survey, iOS also includes iPadOS, so this data is from iPads as well as iPhones. However, other spin-offs of iOS such as tvOS or watchOS are not included in this chart.

Some interesting observations are:

  • iOS 18.5 appeared for the first time among the most used versions, with a share of a bit over 2.50% as of end of April 2025. The share has risen to 82.72% at the end of July.
  • As of end of January 2025 the share of iOS 18.3 was becoming relevant at over 5%. At the end of February it was clearly the version with the highest share with close to 60% and the rise had continued to over 70% as of the end of March. Since then, it declined to 3.44% at the end of July.
  • iOS 26.0 appeared among the most used versions for the first time in July and was at 3.63% at the end of the month.

Understanding iOS version adoption is crucial for app developers, product managers, and publishers because it directly impacts compatibility, feature planning, and user experience. Knowing which iOS versions are most widely used helps teams decide the minimum supported version, prioritize testing efforts, and take advantage of the latest APIs without alienating a significant portion of their user base. It also informs update strategies, security considerations, and the timing of feature rollouts, ensuring that resources are invested where they will have the greatest impact. In short, accurate adoption data means fewer surprises, better app performance, and happier users.
