Powerkids is a health app that helps children with overweight, aged 8-12 years. It’s a 12-week program with tasks, challenges, and elements of motivation. The goal is to establish a healthier lifestyle across three key pillars: nutrition, physical activity, and self-esteem. The kids are encouraged to track meals and movement and to collect rewards through gamification.

12 week program for children with overweight.

With Powerkids, we focus on the kids and their families, but as an organization, we work on a broader awareness for overweight prevention and children’s health promotion.

The app is available on the App Store and Play Store in Germany and Austria. We went live in September 2025. So far, we have 120 daily active users, and we consider our app early stage.

Finding the right analytics service for a healthcare app

We added an analytics solution to Powerkids because we wanted to get a better understanding of actual app usage, feature adoption, weekly engagement, and adherence over time.

Privacy is crucial for us because PowerKids is an app for children and deals with highly sensitive data within a health-related context. This means we have especially high standards regarding data minimization and responsible tracking. For us, TelemetryDeck was a strong fit because it aligned much better with our values and our use case than traditional growth-focused analytics platforms. We are happy that our app agency recommended TelemetryDeck to us.

The onboarding was super quick, and the questions we had were answered by the TelemetryDeck team super quickly. Our agency built several dashboards for us, and whenever we had a question that was not yet answered with the existing charts, we found it very easy to create the missing chart or dashboard.

Combining usage data and user feedback

Every week, we have some dedicated time to look at the usage data. The most important KPIs during this early phase of Powerkids are Downloads and Daily Active Users. We compare the insights from TelemetryDeck with the feedback we receive from users via email or as reviews in the App Store and then decide which improvements to implement next.

Our usage data revealed that many users start using PowerKids in the first week, but engagement drops off afterward. This was a key insight for us. It indicated that we need to invest more in long-term motivation, onboarding, reminders, and the overall reward structure of the app.

User feedback helped us turn this insight into concrete actions. Families asked for more movement-related content, additional sports ideas, and a more intuitive nutrition diary. Based on this, we decided to strengthen the physical activity component of PowerKids and significantly improve the food tracking experience.
