What does TelemetryDeck do?

TelemetryDeck is an app analytics service. When you integrate the TelemetryDeck SDK into your app, events are tracked, and you can view them in the TelemetryDeck dashboard in your browser. This allows you to answer key questions that are important for optimizing your app, such as

  • Where do an above-average number of users drop out of the onboarding funnel?
  • What are the most popular features of your app?
  • What is your users’ 7-day retention rate?

TelemetryDeck collects only anonymized usage data. This means that no connection to specific individuals is established, and no personal data is processed. TelemetryDeck is therefore not subject to the GDPR, and app publishers do not need to obtain consent for tracking.

TelemetryDeck SDKs are available for all major platforms. Currently, nearly 8,000 developers from around the world use TelemetryDeck to measure usage of their products. The company recently reached the milestone of 15 billion events. Customers include well-known indie developers such as Charlie Chapman from RevenueCat as well as large companies like Jamf Device Management.

Where is TelemetryDeck hosted?

TelemetryDeck runs on a cloud infrastructure that has been fully hosted by Hetzner since April 2026. Hetzner operates several data centers in Nuremberg, Falkenstein, Helsinki, Singapore, and the U.S. TelemetryDeck has chosen the Helsinki data center. This ensures that the data collected by TelemetryDeck is not only processed in accordance with German and European data protection laws but is also stored exclusively on European soil.

For the sake of transparency, we’d also like to mention that TelemetryDeck maintains business relationships with Microsoft Azure (static file hosting) and Amazon AWS (operation of certain components for individual customers).

Why do you need to know in which country the providers of the software you use are based?

TelemetryDeck processes only data that does not contain any personal references. This means that it is not possible to determine which individual performed the tracked activities in the respective app. Since no personal references are established, TelemetryDeck does not fall under the scope of major data protection laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA.

Nevertheless, TelemetryDeck meets data protection requirements as if personal data were being processed. What does that mean? TelemetryDeck does not transfer any data to the U.S. or to non-adequate third countries, and no data leaves the European Union. This way, TelemetryDeck’s customers can be confident that all their compliance requirements are met.

Why is this important?

Data transfers between Europe and the U.S. have been a source of significant uncertainty for many years. This is because U.S. data protection practices and the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) are diametrically opposed. The two legal frameworks are incompatible, primarily due to the CLOUD Act and the invalidation of the Privacy Shield and Safe Harbor agreements.

In the summer of 2026, it becomes known that the currently valid agreement, the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework, will likely be overturned soon as well, since the Trump v. Slaughter case determined that the independence of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is not guaranteed. This independence was one of the core components of the data protection agreement. Experts therefore firmly expect a lawsuit to be filed before the European Court of Justice.

For companies, this represents yet another massive source of uncertainty when using software from U.S. providers or processing data on servers operated by U.S. companies. Consequently, a trend has emerged to strengthen Europe’s digital sovereignty while simultaneously becoming independent of U.S. providers. This trend is being reinforced by geopolitical tensions and the actions of the Trump administration.

Summary

TelemetryDeck is a European analytics provider through and through. Both the people who work at TelemetryDeck and the servers on which the infrastructure is hosted are 100% located within the European Union and are subject exclusively to European and German laws.

The values that TelemetryDeck and its two founders stand for are democracy, equality, and privacy.
